Google Buys Maker Of 3D Modeling Software

This is wild. I know about and regularly use Google Earth. I’ve even “flown” through the Grand Canyon and San Francisco in it. However I never really equated that with Google being interested in a 3D modeling company. I wonder if there could be other connections between the 3D world that UGS lives in every day and what Google wants to do? How about getting 3D models of products that are searchable by dimension? Or searching for component parts based on a general sketch of what you want it to look like? I think I need to drop in on those guys next time I am in Palo Alto…
