Virtual manufacturing in second life

While it’s a bit of an ‘art project’, the team that is working on this is doing a little bit of everything that I’ve been talking about here for the last year:

  • Virtual worlds as a foundation for a new kind of collaboration (I like the comment about the camaraderie the workers feel towards each other)
  • Social production of physical goods (although I don’t know if I’d wear anything that came off of a fabric printer)
  • Blurring the lines between the virtual and physical (the portal idea is interesting…hope I can get one going in the opposite direction soon).

Now if they just had a Siemens PLC on that printer…
